How can the Alexander Technique Help?

“Every Man, woman and child holds the possibility of physical perfection; it rests with each of us to attain it by personal understanding and effort” – Frederick Matthias Alexander.

Over time many of us develop habits that impede our well-being. So when we undertake simple tasks we often do so with undue levels of tension that limit our performance and use up a lot of energy.

The Alexander Technique gives us the opportunity to change the way in which we hold ourselves, walk, sit, stand and bend so that our movement becomes freer and we begin to regain our natural poise and balance.

Through a gradual process of re-education we:
-
Become more aware of how we think about movement
-
Learn to identify harmful habits that have affected our bodies and our mobility
-
Release muscular tension and move with greater ease
-
Learn about the importance of the relationship between the head, neck and back
-
Recognise what is happening in our bodies
-
Learn to use our mind and think before deciding to move
-
Improve our co-ordination and balance
-
Achieve freedom in our movements
-
Improve our physical and mental well-being
-
Have a sense of becoming lighter and calmer
-
Learn to help ourselves

After several lessons you will begin to notice the habits that have developed in your daily activities and where your approach may be unhelpful. You may notice where you are expending too much energy, or where you are holding undue tension in your body. As we work together new better habits will be introduced and you will develop a much greater awareness of your body and how it works.
